Virtual Local Roaming

The ability to roam is perhaps the greatest advantage of GSM, however, to avoid costly roaming rates, international subscribers often turn their handsets off or reject incoming calls when inbound roaming. It is not uncommon for in-bound roamers to purchase local prepaid SIM cards to make and receive calls using the local number; but this results in additional headaches such as changing SIMs, missing SMSes and calls, or maintaining multiple handsets. Mobilis Roamer solves this problem for international in-bound roamers, benefiting both the subscriber and local operator.

Operator Benefits

  • Offer attractive rates to roamers increasing differentiation and customer loyalty
  • Entice in-bound roamers to use your network with ease (no new SIM required)
  • Simple to integrate and deploy
  • No “clearing house” or shared revenue with other operators when service is offered prepaid to in-bound roamers
  • Additional revenue streams with increased airtime and termination charges
  • No special partnership required with HPMN in providing local and temporary number to in-bound roamers

Subscriber Benefits

  • In-bound roamers wanting to avoid roaming rates do not need to purchase new local SIMs to make outgoing calls
  • Make and receive calls on both the virtual local number and home number
  • Significant cost savings for calls made locally or to a third country
  • Local subscribers can call the in-bound roamer without incurring international charges

In-Bound Registration

  • In-bound roamer enters country network
  • Receives a roaming welcome (via Mobilis Roaming Welcome Application) with instructions to send an SMS/USSD to get a local number
  • In-bound roamer sends SMS/USSD to get local virtual prepaid number
  • In-bound roamer then receives the local number via SMS
  • Both home and local number are now simultaneously available for use
  • USING THE HOME NUMBER:
  • Making and receiving calls using the home number remain unchanged
  • CALLING FROM LOCAL NUMBER:
  • Add a prefix to the destination number
  • Prefix means call is routed to the Mobilis VLR Server
  • Mobilis VLR Server sets caller number to the virtual local number
  • Mobilis VLR Server removes prefix from destination number
  • MSC then continues the call as normal
  • CALLS MADE TO LOCAL NUMBER:
  • Call is automatically routed to Mobilis VLR Server
  • Mobilis VLR Server changes destination to the Home Number
  • Mobilis VLR Server adds a prefix to the caller number
  • MSC continues the call as normal
  • RECHARGING:
  • Recharging and voucher discharging is handled as a standard local number
